Hip Hop?

No, I do not receive a commission for posting this, I post this because it works and it is FUN!!

No matter what your fitness level, I believe you can do this.  I know it is possible to even do the moves sitting in a chair or while driving your car - TILT - TUCK - TIGHTEN - while breathing in and out.

Seriously, if you make yourself aware of your posture throughout the day and remember those three (3) words, TILT - TUCK - TIGHTEN - you can sit in your office chair at work....take a moment when you go to the restroom, even on your break or where have you  have the free time to do them,  even when I am driving my car, I find myself doing the - TILT - TUCK - TIGHTEN .

If you know someone who has the video, or wish to rent it before buying you will see what I mean.  Because of the method he uses, your not on the ground, so while your sitting in your office chair or driving your car, TILT - TUCK - TIGHTEN - just a few moderate moves, but of course you cannot do the cardio part of the video while driving or sitting...but, most of the exercise moves really can be done from a chair if you are not in a position to stand or move around.

Here is another tip, when you are in a room and have a moment, do push ups off the wall. Your not getting down on the ground and placing your hands on the floor, but you are getting the same benefits doing them off the wall.  Try walking on your tip toes during the day for a mini calf workout.  And a few lunges or squats while your standing in your kitchen won't hurt either.  If need be, hold on to the counter and squat or lunge for support.

Simple workout moves to do on the move when taking the time to take care of job and family. And, if the weather is nice outside - Go get some fresh air....take a walk and you may even ask a friend to join you.

Body Type

Knowing Your Body Type

When trying to achieve your perfect frame, it is important to know yourself inside & out.
Before starting a exercise or diet, you also need to know your body’s structure….its type.

There are three (3) body types: Ectomorph, Mesomorph and Endomorph. Though no one is truly a pure type, we are more of one than another.  You always want to look at what type you are predominantly.  In doing so, it will help with setting workout goals and how to design a personal program for your body type.

Body Type One ~ Ectomorph:

She is naturally low in body fat, thin and lean with a fast metabolism – Perfect Run Way Model Frame.  Her body is shaped by vertical lines Ecto’s have problems gaining weight and putting on muscle.

Strength - Ecto’s should make weight training part of their program.  It will help them to focus on the weak areas.  Using a eight (8) to twelve (12) rep range – working three (3) sets per exercise while resting 1 -2 mins between sets.

Cardio - is perfect for this body type

Stretching - Yoga is perfect – I like AM Yoga with Rodney Yea by GAIAM

Eating - your lucky enough to have a high metabolism however, it is important to consume enough healthy calories (using Calorie Counter will help) or, eating small healthy snacks between meals is also good.

Diet Club - Update

Well, to date we have 22 members and out of these 22 members we have 16 that are truly participating.  My guess is anytime your weight and measurements are requested, some people are not willing to share.  Please realize it is not easy for anyone to truly admit their true weight, or exact measurements.  But, how can we help celebrate your achievements without knowing where you truly started?

Our goal in putting this club together, is to help each other celebrate who we are, and who we want to become. Being the shoulder you need to lean on for that extra boost.

No one is perfect and we will all have set backs.  The point to remember is we must dust ourselves off and get back on track.  True failure is giving up on yourself - because no matter what, your friends will always be there to help you through your darkest hours, while explaining to you ways to overcome temptations.  We will even poke fun at you to make you realize.....if you cannot laugh at yourself....then let us do it for you.

All kidding aside, Women are a unique breed - we are nurturing by nature.  It is a part of who we are - to help - to console - to encourage - to just be there!  This club is here for all the women who want to take back their life by losing the weight and gaining the energy and confidence they once had or always wanted.  Let's face it, it is not until you have little ones ...... yes, and big ones, that we truly realize why our parents never seemed to have much energy.  We drained it out of them!

My philosophy is if we live like we did when we were children well then we can become the person we once were physically....but, better looking.  Let me explain - If we allow our childlike spirits to come out to some extent, ie, laughing, dancing, running, playing, just getting OUTSIDE - even bike riding.  Just being more active physically like we were when we were children, then our energy levels would sky rocket.  We might even regain our imaginations once more.

Sure, some of us may have health issues, but if we sit back and allow our aliments to become who we are, then we will never know what we could achieve.

I work with a woman who has Breast Cancer - She has gone through radiation - Chemo and presently is taking a experimental drug to help her beat this life changing illness.  However, she has not stopped working through any of this and she is always an inspiration to others.  She is very up beat!

I guess what I am trying to say is, if you allow something to beat you and take control of you, IT WILL - But if you put on the gloves and decide your going to fight and see it through, ultimately we become the WINNER.  Did Stevie Wonder give up because he could not see? What about the athletes who may be missing a limb, but go on to break world records?  What about Helen Keller?  They conquered and achieved!

Ultimately, it is up to us, no one but you & me.  Sure, there are many wonder drugs out there promising quick weight loss.  Hell, there is even surgery for the quick fix shape shifters out there.  But, to truly put on the gloves, work at it and decide, I am going to do this and it may be one step at at time, but I AM, GOING TO DO THIS - You will feel not only more confident in yourself,  but others will feel and see that confidence. You will be able to inspire others to do what they secretly want to.  There is no greater feeling then working hard to achieve something..... succeeding, and then sharing it with others.

TOGETHER WE CAN DO THIS!!  If you cannot support yourself - How can you support others?

Taking Baby Steps to Improve Your Diet

Baby Steps to a Healthy Diet

Taking Baby Steps to Improve Your Diet

It is true, stopping a high calorie diet and jumping right into a healthy diet isn’t easy.  If you are not ready to make a drastic change over night, it is acceptable. Just take Baby Steps in changing your diet, and over time your baby steps will become big steps and remain a part of your new healthier lifestyle.

Suggestions you may consider:

On the weekend, make a healthy batch of cup cake bran muffins and boil a carton of eggs.  Before leaving for work in the morning, grab an egg and muffin.
Breakfast is ready and you are on the go.

If you work out of your home and find yourself going out for lunch everyday, try  making a healthy lunch and bringing it to work.  This may even allow you time for a 20 minute walk before you eat, adding an extra bonus to saving you time and money J

Suggestions:

Choose a Low Sodium Soup and a Healthy Sandwich – More Veggies than Meats.

Did you know, avocado can be used as a meat replacement on your sandwich?

Fact:
Avocados provide nearly 20 essential nutrients, including fiber, potassium, Vitamin E, B-vitamins and folic acid. They also act as a "nutrient booster" by enabling the body to absorb more fat-soluble nutrients, such as alpha and beta-carotene and lutein, in foods that are eaten with the fruit.

And, if you use your mash your Avocado into guacamole, you can use this as a sandwich spread instead of mayo. Mustard is also the better choice over mayo any day.

Do not forget to add a piece of fruit

If you have vending machine in your office, choose the mixed nuts over the other unhealthy snacks, or make suggestions to your HR representative to see if they can get the vendor to provide healthier snacks.

Eat low-fat yogurt instead of ice cream.  Here’s a tip, upon arriving to work place your yogurt in the freezer…viola a healthier alternative to ice cream J

Snack on raw veggies or nuts during the day if you feel hungry or end up working past your normal lunch hour.  (Raw carrots, celery, cut up bell-peppers assorted in color)
If you choose nuts, no more than what will fit in the palm of your hand….not the whole hand.
Opt to drink healthier beverages – Water – 100% fruit or veggie juice, perhaps even low-fat milk if desired.

Never grocery shop on an empty stomach…..ever heard the expression “Your eyes are bigger than your stomach!” Well, an empty stomach will make things you normally wouldn’t reach for look more desirable to your tummy.

Adding fish (The oilier the fish, the higher in omega 3) at least twice a week to your diet. However, flax seed oil is another alternative.  You can also take supplements if you are not a fish lover.  If you choose to take the supplements, put them in the frig and they will not make you repeat them throughout the day.  I got this tip from Dr. Oz

When your only option is to eat at a fast food restaurant choose the grilled chicken and side salad or fruit if offered.

And, did you know baked chips are better than fried chips – ever try baking thinly sliced sweet potatoes and baking them in the oven…yummy – If it’s the crunch you are seeking, eat some fresh veggies instead.

Taking Charge for a Lifetime of Healthy Living

Some Tips
Taking Charge for a Lifetime of Healthy Living

REST
  • Reserve 7 to 8 hrs a night for rest and sleep, your body requires this time to repair & restore the daily damage of wear and tear.
  • Going to bed early enough to feel refreshed when you wake up.
  • Take time once a day to change your pace – Go on a picnic, play in the garden, take on a hobby or craft, just relaxing with no disturbances for 10 mins, always go on a vacation (make them enjoyable & fun) take in a concert and attend church. Even 10 mins of undisturbed meditation does wonders for your physical & mental being.
WATER
  • As soon as you wake up in the morning, rinse out and refresh your insides by drinking a glass or two of water.
  • Then, come alive with a alternating hot and cold shower in the morning.  Trust me, this works: Take your hot shower and just before you turn off the water, slowly lower the heat and cool the water to really make you feel refreshed and alive. This is something used in yoga as well.  It really does help revive you.
  • Make sure to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
NUTRITION
  • Eat healthful, fiber & nutrient rich foods during the day.
  • Eat more vegetables then meat
  • Snacking on nuts (no more than the size of the inside of your hand – twice a day) Celery (has no calories) or 5 Triscuits (no more than twice a day)
  • Eat 4 -5 hrs apart – Larger Breakfast (truly the most important meal of the day) & Smaller evening meals.
  • Golden Rule – Do Not Eat after 8pm if unavoidable you should wait 3hrs before retiring for the night.
SUNSHINE
  • Pull back the drapes! During the day, fill your home or office with SUNSHINE – soak in the vitamin D – It is proven to help lift your spirits and improve your health
EXERCISE
  • My doctor said the best form of exercise is walking at least 30 mins a day, I find taking walks outside, instead of inside on a treadmill or other device is much more relaxing.  Fresh Air is GOOD!
  • Believe it or not, strength training is not only good for muscle tone, but it helps increase your bone density.
  • Physical exercise helps to reduce daily stress, depression, lack of confidence, and it helps to restore energy, improve sleep and as stated earlier strengthen bones.
AIR
  • Air out your house daily – sleep in a well ventilated room.
  • Take deep breaths throughout the day – helps to keep lungs healthy.
  • Fill your home with green plants that absorb carbon dioxide & increase oxygen…remember this from science class?
TEMPERANCE
  • Try living a more balanced life, Make time for work, play, rest, exercise and hobbies
  • Keep relationships nurtured and rich in spiritual growth
  • Protect your body from harmful substances – If you cannot pronounce it, read about it and its side effects to make sure it is something you should be putting in or on your body.
TRUST
  • Never put trust in your own hands – release them to your higher power.
  • Love, Faith, Trust and Hope are health enhancing.
MEDITATION
  • At least 3 times a day, take the time to meditate
  • Just sitting in a quiet location no noise, no sound, unless you are just listening to white noise – trickling water, breeze, light instrumental etc.
  • Take some deep breaths, close your eyes and clear your mind.
  • Perhaps a few stretches to help relieve tension
  • Ah-h-h and you are done!

Easy Exfoliation

Want a cheap natural exfoliation?

Next trip to the beach, get a ziplock baggie full of sand, making sure it's free of debris. Best to get sand closest to the salt water.

Bring it home and place sand in shallow dish with your favorite soap. Roll soap around in sand, and wash away. Natures exfoliation right at your finger tips.

I use it to exfoliate my face, legs, arms and neck. Great for an all over body exfoliation, just make sure to rinse off thoroughly. Works well when mixed with your favorite moisturizing body gel, leaves you feeling clean, smooth and silky.

Ligusticum porteri

Let’s talk about Osha – No, this is not a sound made during yoga.

But, with the cold and flu season soon approaching, it may be of interest to you.

Osha or oshá  botanical name: Ligusticum porteri
A perennial herb used for its medicinal properties, growing in parts of the Rocky Mountains, especially in the North American Southwest.

Before we get into its uses, I would like to share some of the plants history I discovered in the midst of reading a book on different herbs, their uses and healing abilities.

The book tells how the Native American Indians realized long ago to respect the earth; animals, plants, stones and sky. All of these things are full of complexity and information, and the Native Americans read them as we do our books, newspapers, etc.

Their love and respect for mother earth is more then any of us can imagine. After all their way of life long ago was surviving off of nature, and living one with its spirit. Their love for mother earth allowed many to be grounded in such a way that it allowed them the art of communicating with the essence of the plant. Not all had this ability, but it was practiced by many.

Native Americans would chew the root of the Osha, then spit it out after the medicinal components had been extracted. Also used internally in small amounts to treat fever, stomach ache and heartburn.

It has been clinically verified that Osha possess anti-viral properties. It is very effective for treating cold and flu systems of the upper respiratory tract as well as other viral infections of the respiratory system.

However since Osha is sensationalized as an herbal remedy the plants are seriously threatened in many areas due to overharvesting. It seems osha defies cultivation outside of its habitat, so commercial osha root is almost entirely harvested from wild stands of the plant.

Osha is commonly used by the Apaches and other native tribes. According to the elders of the tribes, they would use it as a snake and insect repellent: It has a strong smell. Apaches use this herb to aid in the curing of common colds, sore throats, cough, sinusitis, and other side effects of the winter season.

Awareness

My article today is to help the awareness of Breast Cancer ,since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

We have many ladies at our work who have been affected either they themselves or someone they know or a loved one outside of the office.
This is not meant to scare anyone; I just want everyone to be as aware as possible. And please, please have a mammogram done every year. If you are too young for a mammogram make sure a self examination is done. You should do a self examination at least once a month. It’s so important. A mammogram is how most Breast Cancer is found. One of the ladies in our office had no lumps, no family history, and she was only 38 when diagnosed. The doctors have said that they want her daughter to start getting mammograms at the age of 28. She had done the genetics testing it came back negative but, the doctors still want her daughter to start having her mammogram then. They also told her to have her half sister start hers in 2008, she was 29.  Unfortunately, she  had to jump through a lot of hoops for the insurance to cover the procedure but finally she was able to get this resolved and start her mammograms.

Here is some information from different recourses.

Your Breast Cancer Treatment Handbook: Judy C Kneece, RN, OCN Breast Health Specialist
Patient Resource: Cancer Guide, A treatment and Facilities Guide for Patients and Their Families.
Wikipedia, Susan G Komen for the Cure (Internet)

The term cancer includes at least 100 different types of diseases that can develop in any part of the body. All of these diseases known as cancer have one thing in common- abnormal , unregulated growth of cells that can ultimately spread to vital organs, such as liver, lungs, or brain.

“Courage is not the lack of fear. It is acting in spite of it.” Mark Twain
What is Breast Cancer?

No one knows exactly what causes breast cancer. Genetics, having a family history of breast cancer increase the risk. Other identified possible causes have been from environmental carcinogens, viruses, and radiation. Promoting factors identified are life style factors, including diet and hormonal function. (Michelle's cancer was 99% estrogen positive) Cancer begins when the cells of the breast undergo changes. The normal cell is damaged and converts into a cell that has an uncontrolled growth pattern.

Breast cancer is not a sudden occurrence, but a process that has been developing for a period of time.

There are approximately 15 types of Breast cancer, many that require different surgical management and treatment.

In the United States, Breast cancer is the most common cancer occurring in women (excluding cancers of the skin) and the second most common cause of death from cancer in women after lung cancer. Men can also develop Breast cancer, but male breast cancer is rare accounting for less than 1% of all breast cancer cases.

Currently there are about two and half million women living in the United States who have been diagnosed with and treated for breast cancer.

Your information needs to come from someone who knows your exact diagnosis and has up to date information on the medical management of your disease. Your physician and healthcare staff will be the best source for accurate information.

Never substitute information found on the internet for seeing or asking your healthcare provider about concerns.

Always seek information from reliable organizations and make sure the information is dedicated to cancer education. Make sure information is current, look for the last update of the information on the site.

In our area (Georgia) there are different hospitals or health organizations that are provided. Most of the ladies have their treatments, doctors, and surgeries with Well Star and have been extremely happy. Michelle said she loves all of her doctors and can tell that they are truly compassionate about what they do from day to day and they have taken good care of her.  She stated, "I am truly thankful."

Here is some information about Susan G Komen. I think most of us have heard this name and it may be the most associated as far as research and marketing that has collaborated with many companies to raise money and awareness.
Susan G Komen for the Cure, formerly known as The Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, is an organization supporting breast cancer research. Since it has started in 1982, Komen has raised over $1.5 Billion for research, education, and health services, making it the largest breast cancer charity in the world. Komen is recognized as the leader in the fight against breast cancer with more than 100,000 volunteers working in a network of 125 U.S. and international affiliates.

Komen received Charity Navigator’s highest ranking of four stars. According to a poll that has been taken Komen is one of the most trusted nonprofit organizations in America.
Susan Goodman Komen was born October 31, 1943 in Peoria Illinois, and was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 33 and died three years later in 1980. Komen’s younger sister, Nancy Goodman Brinker, who felt that Susan’s outcome might have been better if patients knew more about cancer and its treatment. Nancy had promised to her sister that she would find a way to speed up breast cancer research. So she founded the Susan G Komen Breast Foundation in Komen’s memory in 1982.

Komen has dedicated nearly $1 billion to creating awareness and finding a cure for breast cancer. It is the nation’s largest private funding for breast health and breast cancer. Today Komen is active in over 50 countries with the largest affiliates in Italy and Germany.
The Organization raises over $35 million a year from over 60 marketing partnerships.

SUGAR BAD

The three (3) white devils that lurk around every corner, and in every ones pantry
1) Sugar
2) White Flour
3) White Rice

We have heard it time and time again, Sugar is bad for you, White Flour is bad for you, White Rice is bad for you.  Many white foods are bad for you because of their ability to increase your bodies insulin.

The truth is sugar causes the production of insulin, which, in large amounts, keeps you from losing weight, no matter how strictly you diet or how often you exercise. Just look at the ingredients of your favorite foods: sugar is everywhere. Sugar in moderation is not bad, rule of thumb is anything that contains more than 3 grams of sugar....stay away.  Stevea is a natural sweetener, I grow it in my herb garden, dry it out and grind it up in my processor to a fine powder. I use it to sweeten drinks, and try to use honey or other natural sweeteners when baking.

Here are some insulin-stimulating foods: white potatoes and pasta, white bread and white rice, two veggies that can also increase insulin are: carrots and corn.  Oh well, I will eat them in moderation, because I love carrots and corn on the cob.

White flour has been bleached and processed, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize Multi Grain or Whole Wheat is better for your digestive system.  The more natural the grain, and high in fiber the better it is for you.

Remember eating high fiber vegetables and whole grains are best. The fiber in these food products has a beneficial effect on your digestive process and overall health. Fruits are always encouraged, but did you know you should always eat fruit at least 30 minutes prior to your meal. And, mid day snacks are excellent, just keep portion to the size of your fist and no more. Meats are an important source of protein but should be lean and trimmed. And, they should be no larger than the inside of your hand.

No fad diet is healthy for you. It's all about moderation and portion control. And here is something to keep in mind - Do Not Eat After 8pm.  If you must, wait 3 hours after eating to retire for the day.

09-08-2010 Thought for The Day

Just because no words are spoken, does it mean you cannot hear?

Just because your name is not one called upon,

does not mean you matter not.

My heart is filled with love and as it over flows

know it is drifting towards you.

Whether or not you embrace it ……well, is up to you!
Because it is not in seeing we believe - But through FAITH alone!

Thought for Your Day

So I’ve heard love is when you look into one another’s eyes...
and before you start to speak
the words are spoken by your mate instead.

And when your lying still in each other arms…
your heart beats match.

May we all have the opportunity in our lives
to experience such love!

Deep Scalp Treatment

Here is a great scalp massage combo for your head and hair. - Rosemary - to awaken the senses - Lavender for a calming effect and Peppermint to give that extra burst of refreshment and tingle. - Tea tree Oil is also a refreshing way to go.  However, do not combine with Peppermint Oil.

Always pick an essential oil which would be good for your hair type
For example, if you have dandruff, use tea-tree or lavender.
Use peppermint oil or rosemary oil if you are experiencing hair loss.
If your hair is overly dry, use rose oil or chamomile oil.

Remember For every tablespoon of the oil that you are using (olive oil or almond oil, etc.) only add a maximum of two .drops essential oil

Brush your hair at first, to get rid of flaky parts. If you have long hair, start at the ends of the hair to prevent breakage. Also brush your hair while tilting your head upside-down to improve circulation.

Put a small amount of your oil onto your fingers. Begin massaging in small circular motions near your temples, then move your fingers out over the rest of your scalp. Slowly, add more oil to the tips of your fingers when you need it. (Feels even better when someone else is massaging and your the one relaxing)

After all your oil is used up, place a warmed towel on your head and leave the oil on for approximately 10 minutes.

Wash out the oil with a good shampoo and conditioner. (If your hair is very dry, you can leave the oil in for a whole night and wash in the morning). While shampooing you might have to wash twice.

Do this regularly, about once a week. Notice the effects as you turn it into a regular routine. This will help your hair grow faster with better scalp circulation.

Please Note: Rosemary Limitations

Even though Rosemary is a fabulous herb, it is still not safe for everyone to take without consideration. The herb should not be used by anyone who is pregnant or suffering from epilepsy without the express permission of their doctor.  Since rosemary is a stimulant and is used sometimes as a herbal heart tonic it should also not be used by heart patients without consulting with their doctors.
If you have even the possibility of a negative reaction to rosemary be sure you discuss its use with your primary physician before you take it.

Taking Time For Self

It is rather strange taking the time to write something such as this.  But, after raising 5 young men, 3 who are still at home, and being married for 17yrs, I have finally come to realize the importance of taking time for self.

Taking the time to read a book, relax in a tub, taking a stroll or even writing are ways I like to take time for self and release the tensions of the day.  My favorite way to end the day is massaging my hands and feet.  If you've ever had the opportunity to read a little on reflexology, then you know the benefits and how it will help to relax you. It can also be a great way to rekindle a little romance between you an your partner. But for now, it's all about YOU!

Before you end your day, take time for self - Take a small bowl, fill it with 1/4 cup of your favorite lotion and add 3 drops of 100% lavender essential oil.  Mix well - Soak your feet in warm water for about 3 minutes and then wash thoroughly and dry. Click on this link: Foot Chart

Apply mixture to one foot at a time.  You will take about a quarter size of lotion and apply it to the bottom side of your foot, as well as to the top and in between your toes.   Start massaging all areas of your foot.  You will massage each individual toe up and down, as well as circular motions. Based on foot chart, will determine what areas you want to focus on most.  When you first start you will notice how certain areas may sound like they are cracking. This is actually when you are releasing the stress and tension.

After you have massaged both feet, then it is time for your hands. Click on this link: Hand Chart

Apply mixture to one hand at a time. You will take about a quarter size of lotion and apply it to the palms and top of your hand, then start massaging.  Based on chart, will determine what areas you want to focus on. Make sure to massage each finger individually in small up and down as well as circular motions.

Once you get the hang of it, you will love ending your day this way.

As stated earlier, if you and your better half take the time to give each other these massages, it will help to rekindle the romance, while giving you both total relaxation and release of stress.

Not Just For Cats

Did you know Catmint aka Catnip is a invaluable remedy for respiratory infections?

When taken as a hot tea, it increases perspiration and effectively brings down fevers and acts as a decongestant. It should be taken frequently at the 1st signs of colds or flu. Also helpful in bronchitis and asthma, as well as eruptive infections such as: chicken pox and measles.

It is a wonderful remedy for babies and children; being calming and relaxing it will relieve restlessness and induce sleep.  Its relaxant effect is also felt in the digestive tract where is relieves tension and colic, wind and pain. Excellent for babies who have wind or colic or trouble sleeping.

A strong brew will relax headaches related to tension.

Catmint aka Catnip can be used for other digestive problems - stomach upset, indigestion, and stress related conditions.

A hot infusion makes a good antiseptic inhalant for sore throats, colds, flu and coughs. A decongestant for sinusitis and a relaxant for asthma and croup. It's disinfectant properties can be used for infected skin problems.

For a little history on this herb - Catmint aka Catnip  for  medicinal uses, you will scroll to the middle of page. However, I think it interesting to read the complete topic.

Keeping Your Mind Sharp

Ok, so I was watching Dr. Oz day before yesterday, and his show was on Alzheimer's.  If you have never had the experience of having someone in your family with this dreaded disease, count yourself lucky. Our grandmother had it, and it is not pretty.  First it starts with the memory and then on the bodily functions.

Here were some suggestions to help keep your mind sharp: Play Crossword Puzzles, Jigsaw Puzzles, etc.
I like Sudoku Daily.  They also mentioned, that you should have at least 2 servings of curry a week, because it contains, "Turmeric". Eating turmeric, which is found in Indian foods, seems to reduce expression of the E4 gene (India, by the way, has a relatively low incidence of Alzheimer's). Exercise has a similar effect.

Turmeric

A little history on Turmeric:

Curry is a mixture of several spices, predominantly turmeric. Curry powder, which is extensively used in Indian cuisine, for instance in curry chicken or curry shrimp, is largely made of turmeric combined with other spices such as coriander and fenugreek. Different countries and different regions within a country will have other herbs as part of their curry, but the predominant herb is turmeric. Many Indian cuisine cookbooks have curry recipe dishes.

Curry powder contains many powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds. Cur cumin is one of the main substances in turmeric that gives the curry mix its yellow color.
Turmeric is one of nature's most powerful healers. The active ingredient in turmeric is cur cumin. Turmeric has been used for over 2500 years in India, where it was most likely first used as a dye.

The medicinal properties of this spice have been slowly revealing themselves over the centuries. Long known for its anti-inflammatory properties, recent research has revealed that turmeric is a natural wonder, proving beneficial in the treatment of many different health conditions from cancer to Alzheimer's disease.

20 Reasons to Add Turmeric to Your Diet

14. Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, it is a natural treatment for arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

15. Boosts the effects of chemo drug paclitaxel and reduces its side effects.

Busy Week

Had a roughly busy week.  Been working on a presentation for a class at work, and starting reading the book titled, "The Shack". I will post my review of this book once I am finished.

Meanwhile, last night I took a break.....or, so I thought, in the world of Sudoku.  I so got sucked into one puzzle and no matter how many times I tried to finish, I was unsuccessful.  I will try again tonight and after I achieve it, I will have a clear mind to start posting again.

Sudoku, you will not get the best of me!

Until then, may you all have a blessed day and weekend!

Words

Words are easily spoken & easily said. But do we speak them because of the way it may sound to others? With action we are doing, and no words need be spoken.

Before you rehearse your lines you think others want to hear, know we may not be listening, but watching instead.

Wednesday's Thought

I have learned when others are having fun without you, do not be threatened by not being there. After all, it's not always about YOU - Sometimes you are where you are meant to be.....missing your friends and not being there....just let's you know how much you truly miss them and to enjoy their company next time your in their presence.
