The Waters Of The Sea ~ Mind, Body & Spirit

 The Sea it Calls Us...............Why?

As my family and I make our annual trip to the coast, thoughts continually go through my mind.
What is it about the sea that intrigues us all?
Why are most of us called to the beaches for relaxation?

My theory is a simple one.
Could it be the sea calms us because in our subconscious the
rolling tides and soothing waves remind us of our days inside our mother's womb?

Think about it..........Why do we feel so relaxed when we hear the sounds of the sea?

And, did you know the sea also contains healing properties.
No, not like miracle cure properties, but it helps in healing wounds and cleansing the skin, because of the many trace minerals it contains. Sea water contains many minerals needed by our body to help heal and detoxify.
Some cultures believe the Sea water's mineral balance provides healing from every illness and skin disorder as well as serving as a spiritual rite.  Perhaps this is why we are called by the Sea?  It is our annual cleansing to heal and detoxify the body.

Ever notice how most of the impurities in your facial skin are easily extracted after a day at the beach.
The sea salt not only contains many minerals, but amino acids too!  This combination helps to draw out the impurities in the skin. With the removal of these toxins, also comes faster healing time for cuts and/or sores.  Most of this is due to the iodine, which is one of the trace minerals found in Sea water.  It is directly linked to our body's natural ability to fight off infection.  Did you know iodine in the Sea water helps to boost your thyroid function, increasing your immune system? Sea water also increases the amount of oxygen carried throughout your bloodstream and provides nutrients required by your blood cells to fight off free radicals.

All in all it helps us emotionally too!

We all know warm baths at the end of the day help to relieve stress, but many of us may not realize the long-term stress reduction benefits of Sea water.  Not only do the minerals in the sea decrease stress and increase a sense of well-being.....but the water temperature also plays a major role in our emotional health.

The Spices of Life

We are all looking for the miracle cure, aren't we.  Well, I came across this site the other day and must say it has some beneficial information for all who are health conscious.

Here's to your health my friends!

Farmer's Market

We frequent a few local Farmer's Markets in our area.  The fresh produce is always a good selection of in season veggies.  But, it is also a neat place to pick up other needed items.  Next time you are in these areas, stop by their local Farmer's Markets.  It is not just fresh produce, but homemade items, arts & crafts and other unique items that are precious to the locals.

Gretna Farmer's Market
We had the pleasure of purchasing some local orange blossom honey.  While they offered a variety of honey flavors, they also offered a variety of sizes to purchase as well.  We purchased 31lbs at a very, very reasonable price.  The Gretna Market also had fresh veggies, herbs and spice plants for sale, as well as home made wines.  Many locals with their homemade items and Arts & Crafts as well.
And let us not forget the music to soothe your mood while walking around.  A very nice atmosphere!

New Orleans French Market
What can I say, "A Little Bit of Everything and Then Some!"
It is a must visit when visiting New Orleans by the Jackson Square.  The New Orleans French Market has a uniqueness all its own, and the atmosphere.....well, it's Naturally New Orleans Baby!  Let the Good Times Roll!

GEORGIA Farmers Markets

To many to list, but many to visit ~  One of our favorites is the Cobb International Farmer's Market..... it is like shopping in another country.  A variety of fresh fruits, veggies, spices, seafood, meats, poultry and other interesting items...... It is a must visit, especially if you like exotic foods..... Located in Smyrna - Sometimes it can be hit or miss, but we still enjoy going.  It's like any market if you go at the right time when everything is fresh, you will be happy you did.

Granules & Vinegar?

So, I was at work.......and engaged in a deep conversation with one of my customers.  Some how, we got on the topic of Bee Pollen and Apple Cider Vinegar.   I know the benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar, my favorite brand being BRAGGS ~ only because is contains the mother, which leaves all of the health property benefits.  Like anything, when you process it, you loose the natural healing properties/health benefits. But, I never read or heard about the benefits of Bee Pollen granules.  I know about royal bee jelly though.

Anyway, because I am on a computer all day long typing, my fingers and wrist were starting to ache.  They had replaced my keyboard at work with the ergonomic one....and, it has helped with my wrist and fingers.  Ok, let's get back on track here......my customer explained to me how he suffers with rheumatoid arthritis.  He read about taking bee pollen and apple cider vinegar as a morning cocktail, and ever since he started it, he has had no further complications.  Below is the ingredients for the morning cocktail....it also gives you an energy boost:

  • 8oz purified water
1 heaping teaspoon Bee pollen granules
1 Tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar with the Mother
    1/2 teaspoon of Saigon Cinnamon

Mix the ingredients with a spoon, stirring for 30-45 seconds.  Then gulp it down quickly, usually in 2 or 3 gulps. It tastes decent, better than you would think.
Bee pollen helps so many people because it contains over a dozen vitamins, 28 minerals, 11 enzymes and co-enzymes, and 14 fatty acids.
It's impossible to make numbers like that up. Science has validated these facts for us.
When you combine this most nutrient dense food (possibly on the planet) with the massive nutrient deficiencies facing the Western world, you tend to get the amazing results

It is a fact that our food has lost greater than 50% of its vitamin and mineral content since 1950. And that's fresh, unprocessed food. As soon as you heat, cook, fry, microwave, process or irradiate a food, the percentage goes down further. So to say that we are malnourished would be an understatement. Those that use bee pollen and experience tremendous results are likely experiencing the correction of many nutrient deficiencies.

So do yourself a favor and try a tablespoon a day for a month.

A Lucky Goose!PDFPrintE-mail
One morning in early November, Erica was walking her dogs near the lake in the Rivermist subdivision in Lilburn when she noticed a Canada goose that was being picked on and run off by its flock.  The goose seemed to be having trouble walking, and as she got closer, Erica was appalled to see that the goose had an arrow going straight through its body.  Fortunately, Erica contacted AWARE, and its director Michael Ellis promptly made arrangements for the goose’s rescue.

If we learn more about the wild, perhaps we will become more aware of it's place in nature's process.  Everything created has a reason and a purpose.  When we choose to interfere with this process, we interrupt the proper flow of things.  Ultimately changing the direction of creation.

12 Easy Steps

  1. How to Get Into a Morning Routine

    Edited byTravis Derouin
  2. Go to bed at a reasonable time every day with everything you need ready for the morning. Make sure you’ve packed your bag, picked out clothes and have set an alarm for an appropriate time.  (THIS WORKS!!!! - Early preparation is AWESOME!.........now, if I could just get my children to do this.)
  3. 2
Don’t press the snooze button. If you’re not keen on waking up early make sure your alarm is out of reach. Preferably have it hidden somewhere across your room so to turn it off you have to get up. All you have to do now is stay up.
    Don’t press the snooze button.
     Don’t press the snooze button.
  4. 3
Get away from your bedroom. Being tempted to go back to sleep is easy when you’re within a room you tend to associate with sleep. Have self discipline and force yourself to leave.  ( I find waking up and walking into my bathroom and splashing some cool water in my face, helps to get my juices flowing......then it is on to the Kitchen for some water)
    Get away from your bedroom.
     Get away from your bedroom.
  5. 4
Have a glass of cold water to help yourself awaken.

Have a glass of cold water to help yourself awaken.
  6. 5
Stretch out or do some form of physical exercise for a couple of minutes. Not only will it help to get you moving but will also have great health benefits. ( May I suggest A.M. Yoga for Your Week by Rodney Yee....20 mins a morning to stretch and then you can either do another 30 min workout out afterwards (upper or lower) or in the evening after work.  But it is a GREAT way to start your day.)

  1. 6
Take a shower. Unless, you took a shower the night before. If you’re short for time, a person likely to miss an alarm or sleep in, it’s best to take a shower before you go to sleep so you won’t face being late in the morning or heading out unclean. ( I like to take a quick shower after working out to help me feel refreshed)
    Take a shower.
     Take a shower.
  2. 7
Wash your face, brush your teeth, comb hair and put on deodorant. Also, apply any make up, if any, for the day with care and speed.
  3. 8
    Get dressed for the day.
  4. 9
Have a healthy breakfast. It’s the most important meal of the day and should provide you with all the energy you’ll need until lunch.
  5. 10
Don’t brush your teeth again just yet: Use mouthwash, mouth spray or chewing gum. Eating and drinking naturally weakens the protective enamel on your teeth, and brushing straight after can cause tiny particles of enamel to be brushed away. It is best not to brush your teeth until at least one hour after eating.
  6. 11
Leave five minutes earlier than you need to and check whether transport is working. If you’re traveling by public transport check that your route isn’t delayed, and always have an alternative route to travel by just in case.
Leave five minutes earlier than you need to and check whether transport is working.
Leave five minutes earlier than you need to and check whether transport is working.
  7. 12
Keep to your routine. Have self-discipline and remember that once you’ve done something every day for a month, it becomes a habit.

Howdy

So, it has been quite some time since my last post ~ This crazy weather has had my head in a whirl wind and I am just now getting my footing back.  I hope you are all doing well and are achieving new goals in your life.

I believe, we should start every Sunday, with a small "Goal List", and our goal should be to achieve each item listed by the end of the week.  Start off with easy reachable goals and then gradually broaden your horizon with slightly harder goals as time goes by.

With anything in life.......... If you start off simple, it will be easier to finish in a shorter time period.  Once we get ourselves in a grove, it will fall into place and just become habit.  We will look forward to setting newer goals and achieving them, so we can move on to the next...and the next.... and so on.

The hardest part of goal setting is getting started...... It's like starting a new exercise program.

EXAMPLE:
We see an infomercial and decide, this is the product for me.
We pick up the phone, make the call and place the order.  We wait impatiently for our package to arrive.
Finally  it does, and it never fails........something always seems to come up and our plan to start working out gets put off.

Then finally, we find the time and we start the workout......sometimes we work so hard, we get so - so sore for the next few days the little voice of deception steps in saying, "Oh, this just isn't for you....perhaps you should just give up!"  But, with our positive voices of WILL & DETERMINATION.....we need to realize the first steps are always the hardest.

  • With repetition and patience
  • We will first feel the results
  • Then we will see the results
  • And then we will become unstoppable.

There is nothing more pleasurable then hearing others ask, 'Wow, what are you doing......you look really good!"  Who doesn't want to feel good about themselves?  I believe everyone does - whether it is exercising to feel more energized, helping out someone in need or just being something to someone to help them through a tough time. We all want to feel good about ourselves, and in doing so, we allow others to be inspired.

It truly boils down to getting in the mind set, and not allowing the flow of negative energy to stand in your way.

The hardest thing for me once I get into an exercise routine, is not so much sticking to it, but getting back into it if I fall ill or something major happens in my family life.   I will be the first to admit, my goal is to get back into my exercise routine that I was in prior to my surgery.   I allowed stress and worry to step in, then came the operation and then..........well, just the mind set to get back into exercise.

I always started my mornings off with a little meditation/yoga and then I would alternate days to work upper body, lower body and abdominal's in the evening.  Now that the sunshine is back and it stays lighter & longer in the evenings....my body is calling me to get up and get back to the place we were before.

Yes, there will come a time when we all fall off the horse so to speak......but nothing says we cannot get back on and ride it through.

It is a fact when you meditate, exercise and eat right.........not only do you feel better, but your confidence allows you to go further and enjoy life.

So, may you all join me today, get out your pads & pencils, and jot down your goals for the coming week.....let's do this!

2012

As we welcome "2012" may we all enter it with confidence and well-being.

Let's not start the year with unrealistic challenges.  Start it with small goals, reach them and then slowly add on more. This will set you up for progress and achievement, instead of failure.

  1. Create a List of all the things you would like to achieve this year.
  2. After creating your list organize them according to importance. Give yourself a realistic timeline to achieve at least 3 goals a month, or whatever would be realistic for you.  When you take your time and do it correctly, you will continue to succeed and move forward and on to the next.
  3. You should always start your New Year off with a good cleansing - not only in body, but mind as well.
  4. When you detox your body of last year's toxins it is a guaranteed way to allow your body to truly feel renewed from within.  http://health.yahoo.net/experts/drmao/healthy-detox-after-overindulging
  5. A good spring detox is one of the bears:  http://www.care2.com/greenliving/dandelion-for-spring-detox.html Did you know most bears will eat dandelions after coming out of hibernation. It is how nature helps them detox their systems. I am not recommending you go out and eat wild dandelions, but I do suggest you try a good tea or check your local market for freshly cultivated dandelions to top your salads.
  6. You should set aside at least 15 - 30 mins a day to meditate in total quiet.  This will help to refresh your mind - We all require a little quiet time here and there.  It is not only good for the mind, but for your body as well.  Or, try 10 to 20 minutes of yoga a day.
  7. Take a walk outside - by yourself or with a friend.  Fresh Air is always good for the soul! If it is too cold outside, then do 30 - 40 mins of cardio.
  8. Each evening, try to plan your meals for the next day.  If you have things in order, it will make your meal planning a lot easier.

Detox Now

Whether you want to start 2012 with more energy, lower cholesterol or a smaller waistline, beware: Even your best-laid plans could be destined for failure.

Why? Because while you’ve been enjoying almost six weeks straight of rich food and holiday parties, your liver has been working overtime… leaving your body toxic, tired and overburdened as a result. The bottom line: You can’t expect any success out of your health resolutions in the New Year unless you’ve got a smart detox strategy first.

Now is a critical time to boost your intake of the antioxidant glutathione—a compound that, in its active (or “reduced”) form, binds with and disarms free radicals, heavy metals and other dangerous toxins that wreak havoc on your health.

Your body’s earliest detox efforts deplete your natural glutathione stores—but regular doses of the liposomal form of this nutrient (the most absorbable and effective type of glutathione available) can keep your levels of this highly effective antioxidant replenished at all times.

Next, consider supplementing with a daily dose of milk thistle. The active constituent of this liver-supportive botanical is silymarin—a powerful natural compound with proven antioxidant and free-radical scavenging abilities. Studies show that silymarin can stimulate liver regeneration and protect it from damaging toxic metabolites, while increasing your body’s levels of critical antioxidants, including ascorbic acid, superoxide dismutase and glutathione.

Herbs such as Scutellaria baicalensis and Cynara scolymus (better known as artichoke) deliver added antioxidant defense. Research has revealed that active constituents of the former can aid in detoxification by increasing the transport of chemicals and drugs to your liver, while reducing their toxic effects and supporting glutathione levels.8-9 Meanwhile, artichoke extracts have an equally protective effect on your liver, with studies showing that this botanical can reduce liver cell death, glutathione loss and cholesterol synthesis while increasing crucial bile flow.

Look to a few of the basic antioxidant nutrients for comprehensive detox support. Vitamin C, for example, scavenges free radicals and protects against the reactive oxygen species (ROS) that promote oxidative stress—while n-acetyl-cysteine (NAC) restores your liver’s glutathione levels and binds with toxic metabolites. Likewise, the lipid-soluble antioxidant lipoic acid is clinically proven to deliver wide-ranging liver protection, whether you’re struggling with alcohol-induced damage or toxicity from poisoning.

Finally, no detoxification program would be complete without ample fiber intake. Without frequent bowel movements, toxins can stay in your intestines for long periods of time—eventually reabsorbing into your body. Taking a good fiber supplement, on the other hand, can ensure that your body eliminates these toxins efficiently, while boosting beneficial microflora and reducing trouble-causing bacteria in your colon.

Integrating all of these toxin-fighting solutions into your daily regimen throughout 2012 can give you a critical edge as you kick off the New Year.
