As my family and I make our annual trip to the coast, thoughts
continually go through my mind.
What is it about the sea that intrigues us all?
Why are most of us called to the beaches for relaxation?
My theory is a simple one.
Could it be the sea calms us because in
our subconscious the
rolling tides and soothing waves remind us of our days inside our
mother's womb?
Think about it..........Why do we feel so relaxed when we hear the
sounds of the sea?
And, did you know the sea also contains healing properties.
No, not like miracle cure properties, but it helps in healing
wounds and cleansing the skin, because of the many trace minerals it contains. Sea
water contains many minerals needed by our body to help heal and detoxify.
Some cultures believe the Sea water's mineral balance provides
healing from every illness and skin disorder as well as serving as a spiritual
rite. Perhaps this is why we are called by the Sea? It is our
annual cleansing to heal and detoxify the body.
Ever notice how most of the impurities in your facial
skin are easily extracted after a day at the beach.
The sea salt not only contains many minerals, but amino acids too!
This combination helps to draw out the impurities in the skin. With the
removal of these toxins, also comes faster healing time for cuts and/or sores.
Most of this is due to the iodine, which is one of the trace minerals
found in Sea water. It is directly linked to our body's natural ability
to fight off infection. Did you know iodine in the Sea water helps to
boost your thyroid function, increasing your immune system? Sea water also
increases the amount of oxygen carried throughout your bloodstream and provides
nutrients required by your blood cells to fight off free radicals.
All in all it helps us emotionally too!
We all know warm baths at the end of the day help to relieve
stress, but many of us may not realize the long-term stress reduction benefits
of Sea water. Not only do the minerals in the sea decrease stress and
increase a sense of well-being.....but the water temperature also plays a major
role in our emotional health.
~ Whatever the reasons we are
called to the Sea ~
May we all visit it annually to enjoy relaxation, peace of
mind and a renewal of spirit.
